Fun in Winnebago

August 10, 2009 - Chuck Hunt
It was a hot time in the old town of Winnebago on Saturday. Literally. Moto Fest was a lot of fun, but boy, did it get hot and humid on Saturday afternoon. Despite that fact, lots of folks showed up and had a great time. But how hot was it? It was so hot I asked Winnebago Mayor Randy Nowak if I could trade places with him in the dunk tank, because I needed to get cooled off. He didn't give up his spot, but he did spray some water out of the tank in my direction on his next dunking! It was so hot that the bathtub racers were fighting to see which one could get to sit in the tub of water. And the crowd hit themselves with water balloons just to get wet and cool off. It was so hot that people on the parade route begged the Winnebago lifeguards to squirt them with their water guns from their float. It was so hot that the food stands were having a hard time keeping bottles of water on hand, because it was the most popular item. But it wasn't so hot that there wasn't a huge crowd at the rodeo on Saturday night. Some had wondered if the attendance might not be down because the same rodeo had recently performed at the county fair. However, it didn't seem to make any difference. The portable stands surrounding the rodeo area seemed full to capacity. The one event lacking in a lot of participation was the dunk tank. This year it was 'tucked away' on the tennis courts, and activity seemed to be down from the previous year, when over $700 was raised. Last year three people on the dunk tank platform (Jennifer Feely, Bob Toland and Randy Nowak) all hit near or above the $100 mark each.

Everything at Moto Fest seemed to go off without a hitch, but we know it actually takes a lot of work to get a town festival off the ground. Congratulations to all of those who worked so hard on a successful event.
