Bucs down Cards in Section Tourney
The Blue Earth Area girls tennis team beat the Fairmont Cardinals Thursday afternoon in Section Tournament play.
The win propels them to round two, where they will face the No. 1 seeded St. Peter Saints today, Monday, Oct. 6, in St. Peter.
The Buccaneers played the Cardinals twice before this season. They won their first match of the year by defeating them 4-3. Later they lost by the same score, 4-3.
But on Thursday the Bucs made sure the match would not be as close as the first two, and won by a 5-2 score.
BEA and Fairmont split the four singles matches, but the Bucs took all three doubles to put the match away.
None of the doubles matches were very close.
Olivia Skaare and Jessica Skaare. playing at No. 1 doubles, defeated Rachel Tenner and Hayley Gref 6-2, 6-2.
By the identical same scores of 6-2, 6-2, Sam Hogstad and Mackenzie Lein beat Kale Murphy and Libby Humpal at No. 2 doubles.

Bucs go to 8-0 in the conference
The Buccaneers volleyball team did more than improve their conference record to 8-0 with their three games to one victory over Waseca on Thursday night. They also guaranteed themselves a share of the conference title for the first time since 2003.

With a total of 68 points scored in the Blue Earth Area vs. Waseca football game last week, fans saw a lot of action.
Unfortunately for BEA fans, the Bucs came out on the short end of the stick and lost 41-27 to the Bluejays.
Girls 4th, boys 5th at I-90 meet
The Bucs girls and boys cross country teams finished fourth and fifth respectively at the I-90 meet at Cedar Creek Park in Fairmont on Thursday.
The BEA girls had a team score of 102.

Missed opportunities, costly penalties, and facing a big and physical offensive line averaging more than 240 pounds all played a part in the Buccaneer football team’s 35-7 loss to the host Fairmont Cardinals in South Central Conference action Sept.
