standoff ends in arrest
Several law enforcement agencies were at a rural Blue Earth residence after receiving reports of gun fire.
A five-hour standoff resulted in the arrest of a 29-year-old Blue Earth man early Friday morning.
Kevin Robert Karl was taken into custody after firing numerous gunshots at law officers with a 5-year-old child inside a rural Blue Earth home.
“We were really concerned about the welfare of the child. Fortunately, no one was hurt,” says Faribault County Sheriff Mike Gormley.
At 11:13 p.m., Faribault County authorities received a telephone call of a weapon being fired at 9184 377th Ave.
Gormley says when Deputy Shane Dulac arrived at the scene, a female who made the call was outside the residence.
Gormley says the Blue Earth Police Department also responded to the call.
“Shots were fired at Dulac and the police officer,” says the sheriff.
The South Central Drug Investigation Unit Swat Team and the River Valley Task Force Swat Team were at the scene, along with the Minnesota State Patrol helicopter.
