WINONA, Minn. (AP) — Winona Fire Chief Curt Bittle says firefighters have contained a large blaze that burned several buildings in downtown Winona.

Crews are still hosing down the buildings, and have begun demolishing some of the storefronts to try to extinguish debris that's still burning.

The fire broke out about 2 a.m. The fire chief says it may have started in the Winona Islamic Center, though that has not been confirmed. The state fire marshal will investigate.

There have been no reports of injuries, but around a dozen people were displaced from upstairs apartments in the affected buildings.
