Family, friends bid farewell to Minn.'s Grams

ST. FRANCIS, Minn. (AP) — Family, friends and supporters have said goodbye to former U.S. Sen. Rod Grams.

Hundreds of mourners gathered on a rainy, cool Tuesday for Grams' funeral at Zion Lutheran Church in St. Francis.

The St. Paul Pioneer Press (http://bit.ly/H0dneT) reports the Minnesota Republican was eulogized as a humble, private man who became a dedicated public servant.

The Rev. Richard Kunst, a former staff aide to the senator, says there was no pretension in Grams.

Grams died last week after a battle with cancer. He was 65.

Grams served Minnesota in the Senate from 1995 to 2001 and he was a member of the House for the two years before that.

His entry into politics followed a career in broadcast journalism, culminating with an anchor job at KMSP-TV in the Twin Cities.
