ST. CLOUD, Minn. (AP) — The new head of the Catholic Diocese of St. Cloud says the church must be an instrument of healing.
Bishop Donald Kettler was installed in a Mass on Thursday at the Cathedral of St. Mary. WJON radio reported (http://bit.ly/19HW0cV ) that Kettler sermonized about his travels around the Diocese of Fairbanks, Alaska, offering apologies for the previous sexual abuse cases involving members of the church.
Kettler spent 32 years as a priest in Sioux Falls, S.D., before being appointed to lead the Fairbanks diocese in 2002. Pope Francis appointed him in September to lead in St. Cloud.
It's a homecoming for Kettler, who was born in Minneapolis and graduated from St. John's University in 1970. He replaces Bishop John Kinney, who led the diocese for nearly two decades.
