ST. CLOUD, Minn. (AP) — An Illinois pork processing company is buying a Minnesota firm that handles chicken.
The two companies announced Friday in a joint statement that The Maschoffs LLC will buy GNP Company, which sells chicken under the Gold'n Plump, Just BARE and Sunny Roost brands.
Both companies are family owned. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
The companies say they will continue to operate as separate units.
GNP Chief Executive Officer Mike Helgeson says no changes in operation are expected. The company with 1,700 workers will keep its headquarters in St. Cloud.
The Maschoffs is the nation's largest family-owned pork production company with more than 1,200 workers and operations in nine states.
