A 19-year-old Bricelyn man charged in a July 2008 accidental shooting has been released on his promise he appear at future court hearings.

Daniel Stallkamp made his first court appearance Monday in Faribault County District Court.

He has been charged with one felony count of possessing a pistol/ assault with a weapon and gross misdemeanor contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

Other conditions of Stallkamp’s release include no consumption of alcohol or mood-altering substances, and he may not possess firearms.

County Attorney Brian Roverud gave defense attorney Troy Timmerman police reports, transcribed statements and Bureau of Criminal Apprehension analysis reports.

The maximum penalty for the felony possession charge is five years and a $10,000 fine, while contributing to the delinquency of a minor is one year and a $3,000 fine.Stallkamp’s next court appearance is an omnibus hearing scheduled for Nov. 2.

The charges stem from a July 22, 2008, shooting incident at the Bricelyn residence of Eugene Stallkamp, Daniel’s grandfather.

According to court papers, Faribault County authorities responded to a shooting at the residence around 4:30 p.m.

When deputies arrived, they found 15-year-old Collin Jacobson in the master bedroom with a gunshot wound to his face.

A court complaint says Jacobson was struck in the face when a loaded pistol he was handling discharged. He had to be air-lifted to a Rochester hospital.

In a March 5 interview, Jacobson told county authorities he went to Stallkamp’s grandparents’ house and the two played pool before Daniel showed him a gun hidden in the master bedroom.

When questioned by authorities, Stallkamp told them that Jacobson found the revolver at Stallkamp’s home.

But, court documents say the .38-caliber pistol was stored in a closed purse attached to a nightstand in the master bedroom.

A court complaint says after officers placed Jacobson in the ambulance, they found Daniel and his father washing their hands in the kitchen.
