The regular meeting of the Board of Education of the Blue Earth Area, I.S.D.#2860 was held on March 14, 2011 at the District Conference Room, Blue Earth, MN.
Present were School Board members: J. Haugh, F. Bly, T. Cahill, M. Eckhardt, D. Fellows, V.Hanson,
S.Becker
Also attending were Supt. Brandsoy, Principals McGuire, Eustice, and Grant, members of the press, staff and public.
The meeting was called to order at 6:30 p.m. by Chairperson Bly. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited.
On a Becker/Eckhardt motion the board approved the agenda. Unanimous approval.
Public Input: none.
On a Hanson/Haugh motion the board approved the minutes of the Monday, February 14, 2011 regular board meeting. Unanimous approval.
The financial report for February was presented and on a Fellows/Becker motion, eight wire transfers were approved for the month and total disbursements in the amount of $1,052,246.99 were approved for February, 2011. Unanimous approval.
Superintendent Brandsoy gave his report:
Principals McGuire, Eustice, and Grant each updated the board on their respective areas.
Staff member J Esser gave her report on the integration of the LEAP program.
Building and Grounds Supervisor, A Gieser was in attendance to present a list of projects he has put together for the coming year
Action Items:
On a Fellows/ Haugh motion the Board unanimously approved the indoor quality management plan and health and safety policy.
The Board reviewed Policy 511 regarding booster clubs and fundraising
On a Hanson/Eckhaardt motion, the Board Unanimously accepted from the certified staff a “notice of desire to negotiate”
On a Becker/ Eckhardt motion, the board unanimously approved the spring coaching contracts
On a Haugh/Eckhardt motion, the board passed a resolution regarding prayer in our school. Voting in favor were Bly, Cahill, Becker, Fellows, Hanson, Eckhardt, and Haugh. Opposed: none
On a Hanson/Fellows motion, the board approved the withdrawal of a proposed discharge of an employee under the veterans preference act. Member Eckhardt abstained
On an Eckhardt/Becker motion, the board approved a contract for service with LarsonAllen, CPA.
Personnel: On a Cahill/Hanson motion the Board Approved the following retirements: Mike Ellingsen, Sue Ellingsen, Carol Soma, and Corrine Prescher.
On a Cahill/Becker motion the board approved the resignation of Mark Hauskins. Eckhardt abstained.
On a Bly/Cahill motion the board approved the resignation of Ryan Northwick. Fellows was opposed
On a Hanson/Cahill motion the board voted to deny a leave request from Ryan Northwick. Fellows was opposed
On an Eckhardt/Fellows motion the board unanimously approved a leave request for Kim Mastin until April 1st
On a Becker/Haugh motion the board approved the school calendar for 2011-2012
