Harriers compete at mega meet

Blue Earth Area’s cross country teams got an early-season look at the site of this year’s Section Championship Meet.

The girls finished 14th and the boys 18th among 25 and 30 teams respectively at the Redbird Invite held Sept. 8 in Montgomery.

Two BEA girls posted sub 17-minute times.

Marissia Hagedorn covered the 4,000-meter course in 16 minutes, 46 seconds to claim a 33rd-place ribbon, while Courtney Grandgenett also had a ribbon-winning effort with 16:47.

Signe Olson was 60th in 17:36, while Sierra Halvorson took 130th in 19:57, Mara Fenske 135th in 20:21 and Athena Peterson was one second and spot back with 20:22.

In the boys varsity 5,000-meter race, Jake Wagner was the first Buc to cross the finish line in 18 minutes, 30 seconds.

Mike Ankeny took 60th in 18:45 and Jake Zebedee was 100th with a time of 19:52.

Isaac Vasquez finished 116th in 20:10 and Ben Krussow was 136th-place with 20:52.
