The St. Peter Saints proved they have a loaded tennis team when they came to Blue Earth last Tuesday afternoon and swept the Bucs 7-0.
The loss dropped Blue Earth Area to an 8-7 season record and 1-4 in the South Central Conference.
The Saints singles lineup of three seniors and a junior won each match against the much younger Bucs.
BEA’s Karleigh Wolff, a ninth-grader, faced senior Sid Dirks and lost 6-1, 6-2 in the No. 1 singles spot.
Abbie Nimz fell to Katie Hanson at No. 2 singles by scores of 6-1, 6-1.
At No. 3 singles, Kaitlyn Olsen lost to Calleigh Carlson 6-1, 6-4.
Eighth grader Karli Olsen fell to senior Ashley Welp 6-3, 6-3.
In doubles it was more of the same.
Autumn Drake and Lindsey Prokop teamed up at No. 1 doubles and fell to Rachael Thompson and Kasandra McCabe, 6-2, 6-1.
The only Buccaneer set win came at No. 2 doubles. Aeli Olson and Beka Krussow lost the first set 6-2 to Morgan Schwarz and Maggie Nelson. They bounced back and won the second set 6-3, before falling in the third set 6-2.
Buc seniors Allie Curtis and Camille Driscoll teamed up at No. 3 doubles and lost 6-3, 6-3 to Rachel Huber and Val Bresnehan.
BEA 7, Le Center 0
The Blue Earth Area Buccaneer girls tennis team had a perfect 7-0 sweep of the Le Center Wildcats last Monday night.
The Bucs only had one match go past two sets as they won every singles and doubles match.
Karleigh Wolff started things off for BEA with a 6-1, 6-1 sweep of Ashley Hentges at No. 1 singles.
At No. 2 singles, Abby Nimz dispatched Breanna Jaycox by scores of 6-2, 6-1.
Kaitlyn Olsen downed Kori Lowe 6-3, 6-1 at No. 3 singles while her sister, Karli Olsen, won at No. 4 singles defeating Andrea Sowieja, 6-2, 6-1.
In doubles, Autumn Drake and Lindsey Prokop combined to win a battle over Maggie O’Malley and Beth Steinborn at No. 1 doubles. The scores were 6-7 (8-10), 6-4, 7-5.
At No. 2 doubles, Aeli Olson and Beka Krussow defeated Payton Shook and Courtney Hentges, 6-3, 6-3. Allie Curtis and Camille Driscoll blanked Brittney Riebel and Tiffany Zuelch 6-0, 6-0.
The victory propelled the Bucs to an 8-6 season record. They are 1-3 in the South Central Conference.
BEA 5, Maple River 2
The Buccaneer girls tennis team lost at No. 1 and 2 singles, but swept all the rest to take a 5-2 win over Maple River on Sept. 24.
Several of the Bucs’ match wins were tight.
Kaitlyn Olsen, at No. 3 singles, eked out a win with a 7-5, 7-5 victory over Sam Bammert.
At No. 4 singles, Karli Olsen defeated Michaela Hislop in three sets, 6-4, 4-6, 6-2.
Autumn Drake and Lindsey Prokop also took three sets to win over Erin Hislop and Brittany Groskreutz at No. 1 doubles. Scores were 1-6, 6-2, 6-1.
At No. 2 doubles, Aeli Olson and Beka Krussow also needed three sets to defeat Megan Langworthy and Sam Beto. The scores were 6-4, 4-6, 6-3.
At No. 3 doubles, Allie Curtis and Camille Driscoll won 6-2, 6-2 over Hannah Proehl and Rachel Rigdon.
At No. 1 singles, Karleigh Wolff lost 6-1, 6-2 to Maple River’s Becca Hager. At No. 2 singles, Abby Nimz fell to Brittany Nase in three sets, 6-1, 4-6, 6-2.
The win put BEA’s record at 7-6. The match was played in Mapleton under perfect weather conditions.
