Buc senior tennis players Camille Driscoll and Allie Curtis teamed up to take third place at No. 3 doubles at the South Central Conference tennis tournament held Oct. 1 in St. James.
The duo started the day with a 6-1, 7-6 (7-3) win over a Fairmont team.
Their next match saw them lose in a third set super tie-breaker to the eventual doubles champ from Waseca. That score was 6-7, 6-4 (12-10).
They bounced back for a 6-4, 1-6, 6-3 win over a St. Peter team to earn the bronze medals.
This is the first year of tennis for the two seniors, who had been out for volleyball previously. The two did not start on the varsity team until late in the season when they teamed up to play No. 4 doubles.
Coach Terry Barnes noted that the two are very athletic and he knew they would eventually excell at tennis.
“They needed to learn the game first and then learn to play together,” he says.
Other BEA players who placed at the SCC tournament include Abby Nimz who won the consolation match (fifth place) at No. 2 singles, Karli Olsen who won her consolation match (fifth place) at No. 4 singles, Autumn Drake and Lindsey Prokop who ended in fourth place in No. 1 doubles and Aeli Olson and Beka Krussow who won their consolation match (fifth place) at No. 2 doubles.
