The Blue Earth Area Buccaneer girls gymnastics team gave their new coach, Melissa Storbeck, an early Christmas present last Tuesday night.

BEA edged out Worthington in the Winnebago gym in the team’s first meet of the year.

The Bucs won by less than three points, 129.05 to 126.675.

While Worthington took first and second in all-around, the Bucs took second and third.

Marissia Hagedorn led the team with 33 all-around points to claim the second spot.

Hagedorn placed second on the beam with a score of 7.95 and was third in both the vault (8.825) and floor exercise (8.575).

Chante Anderson claimed the third position in all-around with 32.775 points.

She was first in the uneven bars with a score of 8.50 and fourth on the beam with a 7.625.

Also placing in the first meet was Cassie Thompson with a second place on the vault with 8.95 and a fourth on the bars with 7.65.

“This was a great way to start the season,” Coach Storbeck says. “I was nervous and busy during the meet and wasn’t sure what the final score was going to be. The girls did well.”

The Bucs junior varsity fell to Worthington by a score of 108.6 to 70.65.

The JV was led by Brianna Ziegler who took second in all-around and Gracie Leland who took third.

Next up for the Buccaneer gymnasts is another home meet on Thursday when BEA will host Jackson County Central in Winnebago.
