Winnebago – Laura Smith Blomgren, age 97, of Winnebago, died Wednesday, Dec. 14, 2011, at United Hospital in Blue Earth.

Laura was born in Warren on Jan. 5, 1914, and lived the rest of her life in Faribault County. She attended Winnebago Public School, except for one year at Huntley School, and graduated valedictorian of her class in 1931 from Winnebago High School.

Until her marriage to Albert Blomgren on March 17, 1934 at Blue Earth First Baptist Church, she worked in the homes of elderly residents. In 1944 they moved to their purchased farm in Winnebago Township where Albert and Laura worked side by side farming the land, milking Brown Swiss dairy cows until 1950, and then starting a purebred Hereford herd.

Laura was active as a 4-H leader, in P.T.A., and on various boards of First Baptist Church in Winnebago, serving as Sunday School and released time teacher, and treasurer for 18 years.

Her hobbies were traveling, reading, working, writing to classmates and friends. Every year she wrote a poem to honor the birthdays of her son and daughter-in-law.

Survivors include one son, Vic Blomgren and his wife Janet Wheeler Blomgren, of Winnebago; one brother, Jack Kuhn, of Ponder, Texas; one sister, Lela Kuhn, of Fulton, Texas; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband; three brothers, Esley Smith, Cecil Smith, and Dale Kuhn; four sisters, infant Alice Kuhn, Lila Johnson, Elsie Martin and Eileen Wehr; and her parents.

Memorials preferred to United Hands Hospice, PO Box 160, Blue Earth, MN 56013.
