Wrestlers split in home triangular

For Blue Earth Area wrestlers it was a battle against two teams ranked in the “Lean and Mean” category of The Guillotine wrestling publication.

Th Bucs lost 43-28 to Class AA New Prague but dominated LeSueur-Henderson (LSH) 51-27.

New Prague won nine of 14 matches and trailed only once.

The Trojans took a 4-0 lead with a major decision at 103 pounds before 113-pounder Alec Huber put the Bucs ahead, 6-4.

New Prague won five straight matches to build a 28-6 lead.

But, David Franta (152) and No. 4 ranked Carter Hanson (160) put together a major decision and a pin to make the score 28-16.

The Trojans responded with two pins in the next two matches to ice the victory.

Against the Giants, 48 of the Bucs 51 team points came by way of five pins and three forfeits.

BEA never trailed after Alec Huber tied the score at 6-6 by pinning his opponent in 1:05 at 113 pounds.

One of the highlight matches pitted the No. 4-ranked Hanson against No. 7-rated Chris Pfarr.

With the score knotted at 1-1 with 19 seconds left in the match, Hanson scored the winning takedown.

BEA’s other rated wrestler, Josh Johnson, lost to two top-ranked opponents.

Johnson, rated No. 2 in Class A at 220 pounds, dropped a 7-5 decision in his 220-pound match against Nathan Preston of New Prague, who is rated No. 10 in Class AA.

Against LSH, Johnson wrestled at heavyweight and lost a 1-0 decision to Aaron Bruihler, ranked No. 5 in Class A.
