Friday the 13th proved to be a very lucky day for Blue Earth Area freshman Nick Lein.
On Jan. 13, Lein helped lead his Lake Crystal Valley ski team to a fifth place finish at the Tri-Metro Ski Race at Buck Hill south of the Twin Cities.
Lein placed second on the LCV team with a combined run time of 61.41 seconds. He had a 28.76 on his first run and a 32.65 on his second.
That score put him in eighth overall place out of 43 skiers.
Things were not so lucky on Friday the 13th for Buccaneer junior Laura Soerensen, also a member of the LCV girls team.
She struggled through her first run, nearly doubling her usual score and came in with a 66.65. She trimmed that to a 36.39 on her second run for a 105.04 total.
That put her in 40th place out of 47 skiers.
However, her LCV girls team came in at fourth place in the ski meet.
Lake Conference Meet
On Tuesday, Jan. 10, the Lake Crystal Valley team participated in the Lake Conference Meet.
The girls came in at seventh place while the boys were in eighth place.
Lein skied a combined time of 49.05 to place 34th out of 74 skiers. His first run was clocked at 23.99 and his second at 25.06.
Soerensen place 52nd out of the 74 girl skiers.
Her combined time was 59.72, with a first run of 29.68 and a second one of 30.04.
Buck Hill Invite
The Lake Crystal Valley girls team placed 19th out of 22 teams at the Buck Hill Invite on Jan. 6, while the boys team placed 21st.
Most of the teams participating were from the Twin Cities Metro area.
BEA’s participant on the boys team, Nick Lein, placed 67th out of the 162 skiers at the large meet.
He had a combined time score of 54.39. Lein’s first run was clocked at 27.87 and his second at 26.52.
BEA’s Laura Soerenson placed 101st out of the 155 girl skiers at the meet.
Her score of 66.41 was composed of a first run time of 32.91 and a second run time of 33.5.
