Dwayne L. Gilbertson

Fairmont – Services for Dwayne L. Gilbertson, age 77, of Fairmont, were held Jan. 23, 2012, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Fairmont. The Rev. Anthony Bertram officiated. Burial of ashes followed at Fairview Memorial Park in Fairmont. Lakeview Funeral Home in Fairmont was in charge of arrangements.

Dwayne passed away Thursday morning, Jan. 19, 2012, at the Trimont Health Care Center surrounded by his family.

Dwayne Laverne Gilbertson was born on May 1, 1934, in Albert Lea, the son of George and Alyda (Larsen) Gilbertson. He graduated from Albert Lea High School in 1952. He went on to school to become a draftsman. He married Sandra Nicholson and they had four boys together. They lived in Albert Lea, the Minneapolis area and Blue Earth. Dwayne worked for Fairmont Railway Motors in Fairmont and after his retirement he worked part-time at Truman Farmers Elevator in Truman. Dwayne was united in marriage to Nila Sandersfeld at St. Paul Lutheran Church on June 9, 1984. Dwayne was a loving husband and father.

Dwayne was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and the Jaycees. In his spare time he enjoyed woodworking, gardening and being with his animals. His boys learned to respect animals from their Father and they enjoyed goose, duck and pheasant hunting together.

Those that will cherish his memory include his wife, Nila Gilbertson, of Fairmont; three sons, Douglas and Jeffrey Gilbertson, of St. Cloud, and Darrin Gilbertson, of Minneapolis; one grandson, Theodore Gilbertson, of Minneapolis; one brother, Marvin (Marge) Gilbertson, of Glenville; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Arlyn (Ruth Ann) Sandersfeld, of Fairmont, Verlyn (Kay) Sandersfeld, of Fairmont, Birdella Allen, of Trimont, Shirley Crocker, of Fairmont, Gary and Carman Sandersfeld, of San Diego, Calif., and Marlys (Alan) Grunst, of West Des Moines, Iowa; nieces and nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

In addition to his parents, Dwayne was also preceded in death by one son, Mitchell Gilbertson; two brothers, Ronnie and David Gilbertson; and brothers-in-law, John Allen and W. David Crocker.

Memorials can be given to United Hands Hospice or the donor’s choice.
