Carl Hansen

Blue Earth – Carl H. Hansen, age 73, of Blue Earth, died Wednesday, Jan. 25, 2012, at United Hospital, Blue Earth.

Funeral Services were held Saturday, Jan. 28, 2012, at 10:30 a.m. at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Alden. The Rev. Greg Ofsdahl officiated. Burial followed in Alden City Cemetery,?Alden. Visitation time was one hour prior to services at the church.

Carl was born Jan. 2, 1939, at Thompson, Iowa, the son of Albert and Nellie (Olson) Hansen. He was raised and educated in Alden where he attended Alden High School. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1956 to 1962 where he was stationed at various bases in the U.S. and in Japan, Thailand and Korea. He returned to the Alden and Albert Lea areas and was married to Violet Thorland. He later moved to Fairmont where he became a truck driver for Beaver Transport of New Ulm. He moved to Blue Earth in the early 1970’s and began Carl Hansen Truckin in 1978. He was married to?Betty A. Kahler on Sept. 25, 1982 in Mankato. Carl hauled mostly grain and feed for many years, hauling his last load in November 2011. He was a longtime member of the Blue Earth American Legion post 89 and was a fan of sports of most any kind. He rarely missed any televised baseball or football game whether professional or college and particularly enjoyed watching with his family on the weekends. His shop door was always open to anyone who wanted to stop by and visit.

Carl is survived by his wife, Betty Hansen, of Blue Earth; daughter, Carla Hansen, of Burnsville; sons, Hugh (Leah) Hansen, of Blue Earth, and Eric Hansen, of Blue Earth; sister, Annette Tatarek, of Jackson Hole, Wy., brother, Donald (Elaine) Hansen, of Alden; sister, Pauline Wach, of Albert Lea; and granddaughter, Wendy Hansen (fiancé, Matt Jensen), of Bloomington.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Margaret Dickerson and Marion Halverson; and an infant brother, Herman.
