Marvel Gene (Baker) Eickhoff was born on May 29, 1940, in Granada. She was the daughter of James “Fred” and Irene (Melby) Baker. She attended Granada Public School.
On Sept. 20, 1957, Marvel was united in marriage to Fred Whitehead. Marvel and Fred were blessed with three children, Rick, Tracy and Donald.
On Dec. 4, 1965, Marvel was united in marriage to Bill Eickhoff at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Fairmont. The couple lived in Fairmont before moving to Granada for over twenty years. Marvel and Bill then moved to Eden Prairie then Bemidji before moving to Elmore. The couple shared forty-six years together.
Marvel started working at Stokely Van Camp when she was sixteen years old and continued there until her retirement in 1981. She later worked on her hobby farm raising horses, pigs and beef cattle. As Marvel and Bill traveled, they would manage the apartments and resorts they were at. Most recently, Marvel managed the American Legion in Elmore.
Along with her membership in the American Legion Auxiliary, Marvel also enjoyed gardening, raising Quarter Horses with Bill and traveling. She most loved spending time with all of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Left to cherish her memory include her husband, Bill Eickhoff, of Elmore; children, Rick Whitehead, of Mankato, Tracy Lenz (fiancé, Larry Beach), of Primghar, Iowa, and Donald Whitehead (fiancé, Janie Holliday), of Chatfield; stepchildren, Chris (Karen) Eickhoff, of Canby, Eugene (Jane) Eickhoff, of Long Prairie, Theresa (Richard) Tangerman, of Pillager, Kenny (Rhea) Eickhoff, of Muscleshell, Mont., Leonard (Kardy) Eickhoff, of Winnet, Mont., Margaret Carrington, of Storm Lake, Iowa, Paul (Neatz) Eickhoff, of Wadena, and Joey (Lynne) Eickhoff, of Australia; 29 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; siblings, Gerald Baker (special friend, Darlene), of Mankato, Betty (Eugene) Lehman, of Fairmont, James (Bonnie) Baker, of Fairmont, David (Kim) Baker, of Illinois, and Kenneth (Mari) Baker, of Granada; sisters-in-law, Viola Range, of Fairmont, Leona Kunz, of Emmetsburg, Iowa, and Grace Olson, of Park Rapids; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Along with her parents, James “Fred” and Irene Baker, Marvel is also preceded in death by a sister-in-law, Dorothy Baker.
