Mildred C. Pirsig, 94

Paynesville – Mildred C. Pirsig, age 94, of Paynesville, formerly of Blue Earth, died Sunday, Feb. 5, 2012, at Koronis Manor in Paynesville.

Funeral Services were held Saturday, Feb. 11, 2012, at 2 p.m. at Patton Funeral Home in Blue Earth. The Rev. Dr. Mark Wilms officiated. Burial was in Riverside Cemetery, Blue Earth. Visitation was one hour before the service at Patton Funeral Home and Cremation Service.

Mildred was born April 12, 1917, in Randall, Iowa, the daughter of Peter and Anna (Christensen) Olson. She was raised in the Huntley area where she was a 1935 graduate of Huntley High School. She was married to Lester H. Pirsig in 1937 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. Mildred was a homemaker until taking her nurses training in the early 1960’s. She was a Licensed Practical Nurse at Cosmos Nursing home from 1963 to 1966 when she began working for the Minnesota State Hospital System. She retired in 1982. Mildred was a longtime member of the Lutheran Church and was active in the ladies aide, church circles and quilters groups. She especially enjoyed quilting and helped make quilts for the Green Lake Bible Camp auctions, several of which sold for over $1000. Mildred also enjoyed her gardens in her home and out and playing cards with her co-workers.

Mildred is survived by her sons, John Pirsig, of Minneapolis, Bob (Lois) Pirsig, of Paynesville, Ronald “Butch” (Marie) Pirsig, of Dalbo, and Arnold (Terri) Pirsig, of Longville; brother, Sherman (Marilyn) Olson, of Winnebago; sisters, Beverly (Wayne) Schultze, of Lakefield, Ruth Adams, of LeSeuer, Martha Winslow, of Sanford, Fla., and Dorothy Benjamin, of Redondo Beach, Calif.; sister-in-law, Charlotte Olson, of Huntley; stepbrothers, Merle Olson, of Blue Earth, and Kenneth Olson, of Ceylon; sister-in-law, Kitty Olson, of Brainerd; stepsister, Marge Tieg, of Brainerd; nine grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Mildred was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Shirley Pirsig; sister, Pauline (Cleighton) Johnson; and brothers, Amos and John Olson.

Memorial donations are preferred to Disabled American Veterans Association.
