By Staff | Feb 12, 2012

The Class 2A No. 2-ranked St. Peter boys basketball team further solidified themselves as one of the most talented teams in the area with a 75-41 home-court thrashing of Blue Earth Area Feb. 3.

The Saints were hitting on all cylinders from the perimeter, nailing 12 of 24 3-point attempts.

Pacing the hot shooting from long range was the game’s leading scorer, Chad Poppen.

St. Peter’s sharpshooting guard made 5 of 8 attempts from beyond the arc on his way to 19 total points.

Poppen had a lot of company from his teammates in the scoring department. Along with the game’s leading scorer, three other Saints reached double figures.

Ben Rosburg had a double-double with 18 points and 12 boards, Joey Bartlett notched 14 points and Pace Maier returned from a back injury to score 11 points.

Blue Earth Area was led by center Sam Lee who powered in 15 points. The 6-foot-5 senior’s outing was his season-high point total. Dallas Barslou was the other Buc in double figures with 12.

Luke Monson rounded out the leading Buc performers with a workman-like eight point, seven rebound game.

St. Peter raced off to a fast start, establishing a 19-6 lead behind their balanced scoring attack.

At halftime the Saints were fully in the driver’s seat, enjoying a 39-22 lead.

The Bucs were held to 19 points in the second half and the Saints kept shooting well, elevating their lead to 34 points by the time the final buzzer sounded.
