The Blue Earth Area Buccaneer gymnastics team did not fare well at the South Central Conference Meet in Winnebago on Friday, Feb. 10.
"We were fair nobody (on the Bucs squad) did anything spectacular," Coach Melissa Storbeck says. "We were just mediocre."
The Bucs scored a total of 125.475 as a team, good for fourth place.
Haley Resutek performs on the bars.
Martin County Area won the meet with a score of 133.65, while Waseca was in second with 132.80. New Ulm finished in third with 132.075.
Besides the team placing fourth, the Bucs' best performance of the night came from Chante Anderson who took fourth place in three events.
Anderson was in fourth place in all-around with a score of 33. She also placed fourth on the uneven parallel bars with an 8.4, and was fourth on the balance beam with a score of 8.3.
While the first five places were announced and listed, only the top three finishers in each event received medals and all-conference honors.
Waseca was announced as the SCC champions, based on their dual meet record against other SCC teams.
Buccaneers Anderson and Cassie Thompson were named to the all-conference team and received certificates at the end of the SCC meet.
Coach Storbeck expressed disappointment with the team's scores.
"We drew the fourth routine," she says. "We received some low scores, compared to what we have gotten the past several meets."
The Bucs had scored a 130.375 against New Ulm in their last meet.
"It was a bit of a hit in the gut," Storbeck says. "It was not a real good score for us."
The Bucs competed in the Section Gymnastics Meet on Friday, after the Register's deadline for this week.
"Realistically we won't be taking the team to state," she says. "But we hope to be able to send individuals."
