Mason City, Iowa John Fransen, age 69, of Mason City, Iowa, died at his home on Friday, March 9, 2012.
A Graveside Service for John with full military honors conducted by members of the Mason City Veterans Memorial Association was held March 16, 2012, at Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery, Mason?City. The Rev. Kenneth B. Gehling officiated.
John Fransen was born June 28, 1942, to Howard and Clara (Grein) Fransen in Mason City. John attended McKinley Elementary and the Holy Family school system before enlisting in the Navy for four years as a hydraulic mechanic during the Cuban Crisis in Guantanamo Bay.
John was united in marriage to Jenny Sawyer in 1965 and to this union, two children were born, Becky and John Fransen Jr. After divorcing Jenny, John moved to Alturas, Calif., where he drove truck. John moved back to Mason City in 1996 and worked for Cozy Van for the past three years.
John enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren. His passion was singing karaoke and had a good time dancing. He was an avid fan of the Minnesota Vikings.
John's memory will be cherished by all his family and friends. We will miss his beautiful voice.
He will be missed by his children, Becky (Greg) Jacobs, of Blue Earth, and John Fransen Jr., of Fairmont; grandchildren, Tasha and Logan, Kellen, Lindsey and Kaylor Jacobs, all of Blue Earth; sisters, Patty Staub, of Mason City, and Nancy (Terry) Bagwell, of Alturas, Calif., along with many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, and his friends at the Kozy Korner.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a great-niece, Trisha Davis.
Memorial contributions may be designated to the John Fransen Memorial Fund in care of his daughter, Becky.
