John D. Kottke, 45

New Prague John D. Kottke, age 45, of New Prague, died May 1, 2012, at his home.

Services were held Saturday, May 5, 2012, at 11 a.m. at New Prague Schools Central Campus gymnasium. The Rev. Howard White of Trondhjem Lutheran Church officiated.

John was born Dec. 10, 1966, in Westbrook to Donald and Leona (Kleven) Kottke. He attended Westbrook Schools and Mankato State University.

He married Heidi Haag on March 26, 1994, in Blue Earth.

John was a Computer Programmer for Kingsway America International Insurance Company.

He is survived by his wife; sons, Austin and Noah; mother; four brothers and five sisters, Darla (Fred) Bloch, of Westbrook, Ron (Shari) of Walnut Grove, LeRoy (Bonnie), of Watertown, Kevin (MariKay), of Storm Lake, Iowa, Diane Kottke, of New Prague, Dawn Possehl, of Blooming Prairie, Mary (Paul) Tomasek, of Avon, Keith (Chiloe), of Springfield, and Kristi (Kevin) Curd, of Lake Preston, S.D.

John served as past president and board member of the New Prague Hockey Association. He was very active and served in various positions at Trondhjem Lutheran Church including church council, call committee, youth leader, and Sunday school teacher. John was active coaching his sons’ hockey, basketball and baseball teams and was a lifetime member of the Waterville Sportsman’s Club. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, golfing, attending sons’ sporting events, serving as public address announcer for New Prague High School boys and girls hockey and basketball, refereeing all levels (i.e. college, high school and middle school) football, and farming. He enjoyed family vacations up north and will be noted for his great sense of humor and his “Johnisms”.
