Netters play well against N. Ulm

The Blue Earth Area boys tennis team didn't win against New Ulm at Schroeder Courts at Putnam Park in Blue Earth on Tuesday.

But, they did manage a small victory by winning a game against the Eagles to make the final score 6-1.

"The boys did a great job. It's the best they have played all season. There were a lot of close matches," says coach Konny Wolff, who is filling in for Terry Barnes.

The No. 2 doubles team of Ben Gettis and Jaron King won in three sets over Josh Menzel and Nick Gartner.

Losing a 7-1 tiebreaker, the Buc duo lost the first set 7-6, however, they recovered for a 6-3 win in the second set.

Gettis and King took the final and deciding set with a 6-4 score to win the match.

No. 2 singles Eric Purvis battled Cal Collum for more than two hours before finally losing 3-6, 6-4 and 3-6.

Nick Lein was defeated in two close sets at No. 3 singles by Josh Koelpin, 6-4, 6-4.

At No. 1 singles, Hunter Myers fell to Michael Maudal, 6-1, 6-0.

Tristan Drake dropped two sets at No. 4 singles to Mads Soegaard, 6-1, 6-2.

The No. 1 doubles team of Chandler Kienitz and Trenton Stindtman lost to Isaiah Johnson and Juan Caccres-Gomez, 6-0, 6-1.

The Eagles Sam Frederickson and Billy Griffith downed Cole Klinksiek and Martin Granados 6-4, 6-1 at No. 3 doubles.

Albert Lea 7, BEA 0

The Albert Lea Tigers weren't a friendly host as they blanked the Buc boys tennis team 7-0 on April 27.

While not winning a set, the Bucs did have some competitive matches.

At. No. 2 singles, Eric Purvis lost 6-3, 6-4 to the Tigers Taylor Herfindahl.

Nick Lein fell at No. 3 singles to Cole Keleski, 6-2, 6-2.

No. 1 singles Hunter Myers lost to Trevor Herfindahl, 6-1, 6-2, and Cole Klinksiek dropped two sets to Parker Thompson at No. 4 singles, 6-0, 6-3.

In doubles action, the No. 3 team of Ben Gettis and Tristan Drake lost 6-0 in the first set to Josh Martin and Collin Jahnke.

The Buc duo played better in a tight 7-5 second set loss.

Jason King and Martin Granados were defeated by the Tigers Kyle Zoog and Carter Dahl at No. 2 doubles, 6-1, 6-1.

Chandler Kienitz and Trenton Stindtman teamed up at No. 1 doubles and lost to Aaron Woitas and Evan Templeman, 6-0, 6-1.

BEA 0

The Bucs traveled to Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter on April 30 to take on the White Hawks.

They proved too much for BEA, winning 7-0.

No. 1 singles Eric Purvis was defeated by Luke Moorhead in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0.

Chandler Kienitz lost at No. 2 singles to Wells Brose, 6-0, 6-0.

Also losing 6-0, 6-0 was Trenton Stindtman to Johan Sjokvist at No. 3 singles.

BEA forfeited the match at No. 4 singles.

The Bucs No. 1 doubles team of Hunter Myers and Nick Lein were blanked 6-0, 6-0 by Arend Turner and Sander Lee.

Jaron King and Martin Granados dropped two sets to Hunter Botts and Trevor Omann at No. 2 doubles, 6-0, 6-1.

In the No. 3 singles matchup, Ben Gettis and Tristan Drake fell to Elliott Bussey and Jacob Moorhead, 6-2,6-0.

Waseca 7, BEA 0

The Bluejays proved why they are considered one of the favorites to win the South Central Conference this year.

BEA was shut out 7-0 in a conference match held May 1 in Waseca.

No. 1 singles Hunter Myers lost to Jacob Denn, 6-0, 6-1.

Eric Purvis dropped two sets at No. 2 singles to John Lewer, 6-0, 6-2.

At No. 3 singles, Nick Lein lost 6-2, 6-2 to Matt Metzdorff.

Jaron King was defeated by Ben Johnson 6-0, 6-0 in the No. 4 singles match.

The doubles teams won only four games.

Chandler Kienitz and Trenton Stindtman lost to Josh Kimball and Josh Metzdorff 6-1, 6-0 at No. 1 doubles.

The Bluejays Ryan Von Ende and Dakota Johnson downed Cole Klinksiek and Martin Granados 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2 doubles.

Collin Deidrich and Michael Butterfield completed the sweep for Waseca with a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 3 doubles over Ben Gettis and Tristan Drake.
