Joel Max Molyneux Jr., 84

Foley, Ala. Joel Max Molyneux Jr., age 84, of Foley, Ala., formerly, of Winnebago, passed away Friday, Dec. 16, 2011, at his home in Foley.

Joel was born in Warsaw, N.Y., on April 10, 1927, to Joel Maxwell Molyneux and Elizabeth Marie (Black) Molyneux. He was the eldest of five siblings and grew up in New York and Wisconsin. Joel served in the U.S. Navy from 1945 through 1946. He married Phoebe Hollingsworth on Dec. 24, 1950, in Logan, Utah.

Joel was an outdoorsman, a scientist, a farmer, and an avid naturalist, with both Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees in the natural sciences. He taught high school sciences and later on he taught natural resource courses at Kotzebue Technical School in Alaska. After retiring from teaching, he worked as a naturalist for the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources at Mystery Cave near Forestville.

Joel was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Winnebago, where he was an Elder, a Sunday School Teacher, and a Choir Member. He was also a volunteer with the Winnebago Ambulance.

Joel is survived by his wife, Phoebe, of Foley; sisters, Jean Choate, of Georgia, and Judy Molyneux, of Calif.; daughters, Priscilla (Clayton) Bence, of Martinez, Georgia, Elizabeth (Mark) Seetin, of Alexandria, Va., Serena (Chuck) Clements, of Huntington, W.V., Martha (Tony) Noonan, of Foley, and Rachel (Greg) Borgen, of Andover; son, Max (Bembie) Molyneux, of San Antonio, Texas; 13 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Robert; sister, Mary; and son, Evan.

A Memorial Service will be held at the First Presbyterian Church in Winnebago on Saturday, June 2, 2012, at 4 p.m., with Rev. Michael Roys officiating.
