Blue Earth Area boys golf team participated in Sub-section play in hopes to move on to Sections.
Golfers on the top two teams or the 10 best scores outside of those teams are qualified for the Section.
Sub-sections took place at Northlinks Golf Course in Mankato.
"The course was set up pretty tough with some tricky pin placements," coach Travis Armstrong says.
The Buccaneers were unable to advance as a team, falling into fourth place with 363, behind Mankato East 347, Fairmont 348 and St. Peter 355. However, two of the BEA?golfers will advance individually.
Andy Aukes, who tied for second, shot an 82. This was only two strokes behind the first-place golfer from Fairmont.
"Andy had a one shot lead going on to the 17th hole but ran into a couple tough breaks there,"?the BEA?coach says. "He piled up 10 pars on the course."
Zach Curtis also qualified with his individual score of 93, which was one stroke under the cut.
"Zach has been very consistent lately," Armstrong says. "This was a good round for him and I wasn't surprised due to his recent scores."
With only two advancing, this unfortunately brings the career of two other BEA?golfers to an end.
"That concluded the careers of Derek Abel and Slater Peterson,"?he adds.
Abel shot a 94 that put him in a six-way playoff for the last spot to advance on.
"Dylan Post of Fairmont birdied the first playoff hole and ended the season for our guys," Armstrong explains.
Peterson ended with an even 100.
"Slater had a rough front side with a few balls going out of bounds, but he rebounded on the back and shaved ten shots off of his score," Armstrong says.
Peterson and Abel may be finished as Buc golfers, but they will be missed.
"They may be disappointed now, but they will have many great memories to look back on,"?the Buc coach adds. "Their competitiveness and humor will certainly be missed."
Aukes and Curtis will play in Sections on Monday June 4, in New Prague.
