When the Blue Earth Area School Board meets on Tuesday night in Elmore, they might have good news about a search for two new principals.
Or, they might not.
"We have made our selection for the two positions," Superintendent Dale Brandsoy says. "But we have only confirmed one of the candidates as far as accepting our offer."
That is the newly created position of assistant principal in the elementary and middle schools.
"We have made an offer to (current BEA teacher) Al Cue, and he has accepted it," Brandsoy says. "Now the board will need to give their approval at Tuesday's meeting.
There were 24 applicants for the position, which is a replacement for retiring principal Kevin Grant.
A committee of eight persons administrators and teachers interviewed six of the candidates.
Brandsoy says that the hiring of Cue as principal means they will need to hire a teacher to replace him, as well as for the five retiring elementary teachers. There are 14 teaching changes currently being planned in the BEA schools before next year. A candidate for the position of high school principal has also been selected, to replace Jack Eustice.
That person is Richard Schneider from Sioux Falls.
Brandsoy says he has made a verbal offer to Schneider for the position, but it has not been accepted yet.
"I doubt we will have the details worked out prior to the board meeting," Brandsoy says.
Schneider has experience as a principal in both the Hamlin and Harrisburg school districts in South Dakota.
"We had 22 applicants and interviewed six of them," Brandsoy says. "The interviewing was done by two committees of 10 persons each teachers, administrators, paraprofessionals, parents and board members."
