Only one Blue Earth Area Buccaneer softball player earned a spot on the All-Conference list this year.

Janessa Jahnke was the sole Bucs player to make the cut for South Central Conference team.

The junior has a batting average of .242 and is found behind home plate playing the role as the Bucs catcher.

According to her coach Abby Bloomquist, Jahnke has real firm understanding of the game of softball.

"I would have loved to have seen other individuals receive this honor," Bloomquist says. "However, I am excited and happy about the fact that Janessa was named our lone all-conference athlete."

Jahnke had a great season for the Bucs and took charge both behind the plate and at bat.

Bloomquist noticed that over the course of this past season, Jahnke really took responsibility in her position.

"No matter what the situation was, she wanted to press on and play the strongest game that we could,"?the Buc coach adds.

Bloomquist added that considering how the Bucs ended the season, it would be a stretch to see too many players named All-Conference and was proud of Jahnke.

"Other coaches in the conference recognized her skills and felt her worthy of the title, and I couldn't agree more," she says.

New Ulm dominated the list, with seven of their players making the cut.

St. James, St. Peter, Waseca and Fairmont each saw three players from their team named All-Conference.

St. James and St. Peter also had two of their seniors from each team land on the honorable mention list for 2012.
