Gerald A. Murphy, 88

Blue Earth Gerald A. Murphy, age 88, of rural Blue Earth, died Wednesday, Aug. 22, 2012, at St. Luke’s Lutheran Care Center.

Funeral Services are Monday, Aug. 27, 2012, at 10 a.m. at SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Blue Earth, with Rev. Leo Koppala officiating. Burial is in Calvary Cemetery, Blue Earth. Visitation time was from 3-6 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 26 at Patton Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Blue Earth.

Expressions of sympathy are preferred in the form of memorial donations to Memory Lane at St. Luke’s or Interfaith Caregivers.

Gerald was born Aug. 3, 1924, at rural Guckeen, the son of William and Isabelle (Willette) Murphy. He was raised and educated in rural Guckeen and was a 1942 graduate of Blue Earth High School. Following school he farmed on his family’s century farm. He was married to Mary Ann Evan on Aug. 31, 1950, at SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Blue Earth. The couple continued to farm the family farm at Pleasant Prairie Township in Martin Co. for many years. Gerald had also sold seed corn and raised Duroc Hogs through the years. He was a lifetime member of Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church in Guckeen where he was a Knights of Columbus member and served on the Parish Council. He had been a member of SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Blue Earth since the closing of the church in?Guckeen. Gerald was a member of the PTA at the Granada-Huntley School, was a 4-H leader and enjoyed coffee at the elevator and later playing cards and having coffee with friends at the Derby Inn.

Gerald is survived by his wife, Mary Ann Murphy, of Blue Earth; children, Eugene Murphy, of Rainer, Ore., Richard Murphy, of Blue Earth, Geralyn (Randy) Peter, of Elmore, and Terry (Kim) Murphy, of Granada; sisters, Naomi (George) Paul, of Easton, and Teresa Reed, of Olympia, Wash.; brothers, William (Bev) Murphy, of Murfreesboro, Tenn., Stanley Murphy, of Reno, Nev., and Kevin Murphy, of Blue Earth; sister-in-law, Carlyn Murphy, of Hayes, Kan.; eight grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Mary Murphy; brothers, Clement, Harlan and Duane Murphy; sisters-in-law, Pat and Ethel Murphy; and brother-in-law, Don Reed.
