The Blue Earth Area Buccaneer football team was set to face the Fairmont Cardinals for the second time this season and this time the stakes are much higher.

The Bucs and Cards were scheduled to play in the second round of the Section 3AAA Football Tournament at 2 p.m. on Saturday at Wilson Field in Blue Earth.

Details and photos from that game will be in the next edition of the Faribault County Register. Results will also be posted on the Register website and Facebook page.

The No. 4 seeded Cardinals dispatched the No. 5 seed Belle Plaine Tigers on Tuesday by a score of 48-26.

The Bucs were seeded No. 1 and received a bye in the first round and did not play on Tuesday.

No. 7 seeded Redwood Valley, with a 2-6 record, shocked the No. 2 seeded St. Peter Saints (7-1) by beating them 17-14 on Tuesday.

Redwood Valley now plays No. 3 seed Tri-City United at Montgomery on Saturday. TCU defeated No. 6 seed Worthington 31-13 on Tuesday.

The winner of the TCU-Redwood Valley game faces the winner of the BEA-Fairmont clash in the Section championship game on Nov. 2 at either Blue Earth or Fairmont, in a game currently scheduled for 7 p.m.

The Section 3AAA winner will take on the Section 4AAA winner in a game on Nov. 10 at Lakeville North High School.

When the Bucs and the Cards met in Fairmont on Friday, Oct. 12, the Bucs won 33-24 and claimed the Little Brown Jug.

Fairmont amassed 448 yards in that game, BEA had 374.

In Section 3A action on Tuesday night, the United South Central Rebels football season came to an end.

The No. 6 seeded Rebels lost 31-14 to No. 3 seed Martin County West Mavericks.
