Wilfred A. Ehrich

Vancouver Wilfred “Will” Albert Ehrich, of Vancouver, Wash., died Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2012, at PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center in Vancouver.

A memorial service was held Nov. 24, 2012, at Messiah Lutheran Church, Vancouver. The Rev. Peter Braafladt officiated.

Will was born Feb. 11, 1920, to Albert and Elsie (Ahrens) Ehrich in rural Elmore, where he grew up on the family farm. He graduated from Elmore High School in 1938 and served in the Navy during World War II.

He married former Blue Earth resident and the love of his life Ruth Marie Lehman on Sept.17, 1942. They began their married life running the family farm in Elmore before starting their next careers as partners in motel and apartment management in the early 1960s. The couple followed their children from Minnesota to Vancouver in 1974 to maintain close family ties. Will lost Ruth after a battle with leukemia on April 7, 2003.

Will is survived by three sons: Douglas (Sheron), Craig (Candice “Candi”) and Bruce; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; his sister: Virginia “Ginny” (John) Kramer of Chaska; and brother-in-law: Fred “Frog” Anderson of Blue Earth. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife; parents; sister: Viola ( Arnold) Berndt; sister, Ruby ( Luther “Lou”) Hove; sister: Janice “Jan” Anderson; and daughter-in-law Rosemary “Rosie.”

The family has designated Messiah Lutheran Church, Vancouver, as the recipient of memorials given in Will’s name.
