Hanson picked for All-Star game

By Staff | Apr 8, 2013

A Blue Earth Area Buccaneer football player has been selected to play in the 40th Annual Minnesota High School All-Star football game.

Carter Hanson will join 88 other football players from around the state who will participate in the game set for June 29 at Husky Stadium on the campus of St. Cloud State University.

Players and coaches represent 79 schools and 34 conferences and were selected by members of the Minnesota Football Coaches Association.

A total of 29 of the players have previously received All-State honors.

Hanson is one of 14 players on the All-State team who played in the 2012 Prep Bowl. Nine of the players, including Hanson, were on state championship teams while five were state runner-up team players.

The Buccaneer senior played running back/linebacker and led the BEA team on defense with 124 tackles, three fumble recoveries, one interception and four sacks.

In addition, on offense, the 180-pounder carried the ball for 593 yards on 103 carries with six touchdowns and caught 10 passes for 161 yards and one touchdown.

Plus, he had five kick off returns for 127 yards during the Bucs championship season.

Buccaneer football coach Randy Kuechenmeister has called Hanson one really good football player, and in a word, “tough.”

“Carter is a very physical player and has great football instincts,” Coach Kuechenmeister says. “He is a great tackler and an excellent blocker.”

The 2013 All-Star game will be the 40th in the current annual series and the 51st overall.

For the third consecutive year the game will feature the North All-Stars versus the South All-Stars. In the 2012 game, the North won 33-21. Both teams have won nine of the games and they tied once.

The head coaches for the game are Dwight Lundeen of Becker (North) and Andy Rostberg of Hutchinson (South).

The All-Star game training camp will be held for the second time at St. John’s University in Collegeville, from Sunday, June 23 to Saturday, June 29. The teams will travel from Collegeville to Husky Stadium on Saturday, June 29 to play the game.

Tickets to the game can be purchased from Coach Kuechenmeister at BEA High School, or at the gate at Husky Stadium the day of the game.
