Blue Earth Kevin J. Murphy, age 77, of Blue Earth, died Monday, May 27, 2013, at United Hospital, Blue Earth.
Mass of Christian Burial was held July 13, 2013, at 11 a.m. at SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Blue Earth. The Rev. Peter Schuster officiated. Patton Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Blue Earth assisted the family with the arrangements.
Kevin was born July 23, 1935, in JoDaviess Township, the son of William and (Isabelle) Murphy. He was raised and educated in Guckeen where he attended school. He graduated high school in Minneapolis and then moved to Denver, Colo., where he worked as an insurance adjuster for many years. He frequented the YMCA in Colorado and in Minnesota after returning to Blue Earth in 2006. Kevin was a member of the Interfaith Caregivers and volunteered frequently in the community including at the Green Giant Visitors Stand. He was very active in the Blue Earth Area Mentors program where he enjoyed mentoring many students where he forged a strong bond with several members of the Klinksiek family. He also enjoyed penning many opinion letters to the local newspapers, traveling in the Southwest United States and spending winters in Zihuatenejo and Ixtapa, Mexico.
Kevin is survived by his brothers, William (Bev) Murphy, of Murfreesboro, Tenn., and Stanley Murphy, of Reno, Nev.; sisters, Naomi (George) Paul, of Easton, and Teresa Reed, of Tumwater, Wash.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Mary Murphy; brothers, Clement, Gerald, Harlan and Duane Murphy; sisters-in-law, Patricia Murphy, and Ethel Murphy; and brother-in-law, Don Reed.
Kevin's family would prefer memorials made to BEAM or hospice in his honor.
