The United South Central School building project is still about two weeks behind schedule.

But, Justin Webster with Krause-Anderson Construction says they should be getting back on track soon.

While the construction is well underway, there are still decisions to be made by the School Board. The third bid package will be voted on at a special meeting set for Sept. 10 at 6 p.m.

The items included in the bid package are exterior traffic signage, track surfacing, tennis court surfacing and similar items.

"That is getting us very close to a final set of scopes," says Webster. "We'll have landscaping yet that remains and potentially the bus garage."

At an earlier School Board meeting, in order to cut costs, the board members put the bus garage on hold until they had a better idea of what would fit in the budget and if a bus garage was really needed.

The School Board and the construction company will need to dig a little deeper into the matter of having bleachers for the track and football field for the respective sports.

The current bleachers may need to be moved back and forth for the sports if the field is not playable by the 2014 football season.

"We've got two months to know about the seeding," says Webster. "But, we're really trying to get that turf established."

Currently, the walls are being erected at the new site. It is starting to look like a building instead of slabs of concrete or piles of dirt.

At the Tuesday evening meeting, finishing touches were approved by the board members. Those included the upholstery for the auditorium seats, the paint that will be in the hallways and classrooms, the color of the lockers and more.

In other business:

payment of the tennis court repair was approved;

the board members decided to send the Request for Proposals that was made for the possible sale of the old school building to their attorney to see what wording should be changed or added;

the Minnesota State High school League's guidelines for athletic concussions was approved for inclusion in the coaches' handbook; and

the revised Strategic Plan will be discussed again before final approval as there are still changes that need to be made.
