New Ulm Eagles defeat Bucs, 3-1

The Blue Earth Area Buccaneers traveled to New Ulm to participate in an even-scoring competition that could have landed in anyone’s favor.

However, the Eagles took the match, winning 3-1.

The first game came down to the Bucs fighting for the last points in order to get the two-point lead necessary for the game victory. The BEA?girls ended up with the first win of the match, 26-24.

The Eagles took a quicker win in the second game by a score of 26-15.

But, the Bucs came back in the third game, inching closer to their opponents’ score. Unfortunately, New Ulm won by just three points, 25-22.

The fourth game was all the Eagles needed to take the match. So, the Bucs tried to hang on, in order to continue play, but the Eagles came out the victor, 25-19, and ended the match after just four games.

Usually a strength at the back line, Audrey McDonald cranked out 21 digs and five kills, instead.

Nicole Krinke continues to rack up stats in the form of set assists; she had 15 this match. She also had 15 digs and was 14 for 15 serving, scoring six points.

Ciarra Olson was 17 for 17 at the service line, serving one ace and accounting for nine service points.

The Bucs loss to New Ulm puts BEA at an overall record of 2-8 and South Central Conference record of 0-3.

The Bucs will go head to head against their rivals on Tuesday when they host the Fairmont Cardinals at 7:30 p.m. at BEAHS.

St. Peter 3, BEA 0

The Blue Earth Area volleyball team tallied a loss when they played St. Peter in Blue Earth last Tuesday.

St. Peter won the match 3-0, with game scores of 25-14, 25-10 and 25-13.

Ciarra Olson led the team in kills and at the service line. She was 8 for 8 serving, scoring one ace and three service points. Olson also managed eight kills and seven digs.

Nicole Krinke had nine set assists and five digs.

Luverne Tournament

The Blue Earth Area Buccaneers traveled to Luverne Saturday, Sept. 7 to participate in the Luverne Volleyball Tournament.

Each match in the tournament consisted of two games, with five other teams involved; Luverne, Southwest Minnesota Christian, Edgerton, Pipestone and Vermillion.

The Bucs won two games by total points and lost three.

The girls first went up against Luverne, which ended in a 2-0 win for BEA.

The Bucs won the first game with a 10-point lead, ending 25-15.

The second game went to Luverne with a score of 25-20. However, in the case of a tie, the winner is determined by total points.

Audrey McDonald was active on the court in the first round of the tournament. She was 10 for 10 serving with four aces. She also had 10 digs and three kills.

Nicole Krinke aided her team by assisting with 11 sets. She also managed six digs and three ace blocks.

The girls in maroon and gold fell flat in the second round, losing to SWMC, 25-16 and 25-18.

However, they came back strong in the third round when they faced Edgerton. Both sets were close scoring, with the Bucs winning 29-27 and 25-22.

Haley Resutek led the team in digs in round three by handling seven of them.

BEA had some consistency at the back line again. McDonald was 5 for 6 with three aces. Krinke was 6 for 6 and Rena Zierke was 4 for 4 serving.

The Bucs’ three losses were against SWMC, 2-0; Pipestone, 2-0; and Vermillion, 2-0.

Their participation in the tourney gave BEA?their first two wins of the season.
