BLUE EARTH AREA SCHOOL BOARD MINUTES

The regular meeting of the Board of Education of the Blue Earth Area, I.S.D #2860 was held on Monday August 12, 2013 in Blue Earth, MN.

The swearing in of our newest Board member, Sheila Ripley, was conducted by Chairman Frankie Bly to start the meeting.

Present were School Board members: J. Haugh, M. Eckhardt, D. Fellows, F. Bly, M. Maher, T. Cahill and S. Ripley.

Also attending were Supt. Gough, members of the press, staff and public.

The meeting was called to order at 6:30 p.m. by Chairperson Bly. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited.

On a Maher/Fellows motion the board approved the agenda. Unanimous approval.

Public input: None

On an Eckhardt/Cahill motion, the board unanimously approved the minutes from the July meeting.

On a Cahill/Maher motion the minutes of the special meeting held on July 31 were unanimously passed.

The board unanimously approved eight money transfers in the amount of $576,868.88. Fellows/Ripley motion.

Chairperson's report: None

Superintendents Report: Evan Gough shared information from the two summer workshops that he has attended. He also gave the board a rundown of all the back-to-school activities that the staff are busy with.

Committee Reports: Member Eckhardt shared that certified staff negotiations had met again and a future date has been set to meet again.

Principal Reports: McGuire shared that back-to-school packets are out and informed the board that a back pack program will be run through St. Paul Lutheran Church for the Blue Earth site. Cue shared that the PLC leaders met last week to review last years work. Schneider shared the results of the summer school offerings and also informed a decision to close the open campus for lunch grades 11-12 may be closed during the construction project on Hwy #169 for student safety reasons.

Other Reports:

Ryan Hoffman with ICS Consulting was present to give a report of the HVAC project at the K-8 site. The entire project has been a success in large part because of the cooperation of the custodial staff and the willingness of staff and administration to make arrangements to keep the project moving forward.

Action Items:

Memberships for the MSBA and the South Central Service Coop were approved on a Haugh/Fellows motion.

Approval of annual bids for the 2013-2014 school year were as follows:

Bimbo bakery for baked goods-Eckhardt/Cahill motion

Dairy went to Sampson Dairy-Ripley/Maher motion

Waste removal went to Waste Management-Cahill/Eckhardt motion

Softener salt went to Garlick's of Blue Earth-Haugh/Cahill motion

#1 & #2 Fuel oil- More's Ag. Ripley/Eckhardt. Haugh abstained

Gasoline & Diesel-Kwik Trip in Blue Earth and Urban Oil of Winnebago. Maher/Fellows. Haugh abstained

Snow removal went to Ron's Trenching at the Winnebago site and Weerts Construction at the Blue Earth site.

The student handbooks for all three sites were approved on a Haugh/Cahill motion.

The fall coaching list was approved with the addition of Suzie Olsen as a volunteer Asst. tennis coach.

Misc. pay rates for the year were approved on a Haugh/Ripley motion.

A medical leave was granted to Matthew Ulrich (custodial helper) on a Haugh/Fellows motion.

A lane change for Nate Lund from a BA-BA15 was approved on a Ripley/Maher motion.

Mary Eckhardt was chosen as a MSBA Delegate on a Cahill/Ripley motion.

On a Cahill/Maher motion, the board was dismissed at 7:38pm
