BLUE EARTH AREA SCHOOL BOARD MINUTES

The regular meeting of the Board of Education of the Blue Earth Area, I.S.D #2860 was held on Monday July 8, 2013 in Blue Earth, MN.

Present were School Board members: J. Haugh, M. Eckhardt, D. Fellows, F. Bly, M. Maher and T. Cahill.

Also attending were Supt. Gough, members of the press, staff and public.

The meeting was called to order at 6:30 p.m. by Chairperson Bly. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited.

On a Fellows/Maher motion the board approved the agenda. Unanimous approval.

Public input: None

On an Eckhardt/Cahill motion, the board unanimously approved the minutes from the June meeting.

The board unanimously approved seven money transfers in the amount of $3,318,391.56. Haugh/Fellows motion.

Chairperson's report: Chairman Bly declared a vacancy on the Board due to the passing of long time member Vickie Hanson. The Board will conduct interviews for the opening on July 31 at 6:30pm with a probable board appointment at the regular August board meeting.

Superintendents Report:

Evan Gough shared that all open staff positions had been filled at this time. He also shared that the HVAC project at the K-8 site was ahead of schedule and going very well.

Committee Reports: None

Principal Reports: None

Other Reports:

Dr. Sara Mittelstadt was on hand to give an update on the SPEC program. She stated that the ALC program at the Winnebago site has been a very good fit for the Coop.

Action Items:

Mark Maher was elected as school board treasurer on a Cahill/Eckhardt motion.

The board approved an engagement letter with Van Iwaarden Associates for actuarial services. Haugh/Eckhardt motion.

The activity/meal rates for 2013-2014 were approved on Maher/Eckhardt motion.

The following board reimbursement rates were approved on a Haugh/Cahill motion:

Board Chair, Clerk, and Treasurer $300 annually.

Meeting up to a half day-$50

All day meeting-$70

The first reading of the student handbooks was given.

The strategic roadmap for the district was approved on an Eckhardt/Maher motion. Thank you to all the staff that spent an enormous amount of time on this vision for the District.

The special meeting of the Board of Education of the Blue Earth Area, I.S.D #2860 was held on Wednesday July 31, 2013 in Blue Earth , MN.

Chairman Bly called the meeting to order at 7:43pm.

Present were School Board members: J. Haugh, M. Eckhardt, D. Fellows, F. Bly, and T. Cahill.

The following reason was given for this special meeting:

The sole purpose of this meeting was to fill the vacant seat on the Board. Earlier in the evening the Board conducted interviews with Kim Johnson, Lori Frisk Thompson and Sheila Ripley. A letter from Kara Drake formally withdrawing her name from consideration was read. Thank you to those that took interest in helping us fill the vacancy on the Board due to the loss of long time member Vickie Hanson.

On a Bly/Fellows motion Sheila Ripley was unanimously selected for appointment to the board.

On a Cahill/Haugh motion, the board was dismissed at 7:47pm

8. Approved payment bills totaling $47,712.90.

2. L. Bosma met regarding SSTS business.

3. J. McDonald met regarding public works business.
