William (Bill) Manske Sr.

Algona, Iowa William (Bill) Manske Sr., of Algona, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2013, at the Good Samaritan Center in Algona. He was born on Dec. 16, 1926, to Enno and Ruth (Girolt) Manske, in Blue Earth.

Bill was baptized and confirmed at Salem Evangelical Church in Blue Earth. He graduated from Blue Earth Public Schools in 1944. During his high school years, he loved participating in football, basketball and track.

In 1948, Bill married Beverly Oothoudt. They lived on the family farm where Bill farmed 200 acres and milked a large herd of Guernsey cows. During these years, he had a cow that earned a National Record for Milk Production.

After 20 years of farming and dairy farming, Bill moved to Algona, and began Manske Drainage, a tiling construction business, which he operated for 10 years, until his son, Dick, purchased the business. Bill worked with his son until he was 75 years old.

After Beverly’s death, Bill married longtime family friend, Pat McGinnis, in 2008. Bill was a 50-year member of his church and sang in the choir. He enjoyed everyone he met and had a knack for joking and making others laugh. He loved watching and participating in sports, especially golf, and spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Bill loved drawing, painting and especially woodcarving, a hobby he began in retirement.

His parents; and his first wife of 59 years, Beverly, precede Bill in death.

He is survived by his wife, Pat, of Algona; sister, Margaret (Mirs) Satran, of Columbus, N.M.; daughter, Terry (Kim) Anderson, of Windom; sons, Robert (Lynn) Manske, of Mankato, Richard (Linda) Manske, of?Algona, Ronald (Dana) Manske, of LeSueur, and William (Deb) Manske, of Algona; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; stepchildren, Sue (Dave) Isebrands, of Wagner, S.D., Mike (Jean) McGinnis, of Morrison, Colo., Jan Alabart, of Morrison, and Jeff (Chris) McGinnis, of Buena Vista, Colo.; 10 step-grandchildren; and one step-great-grandchild.

A Memorial Service was held Oct. 29, 2013, at the First United Methodist Church in Algona.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested. Honorary pallbearers are his grandchildren: Jason Anderson, Trevor Slette, Tera Anderson, Brent Anderson, Andy Manske, Nicole Manske, Scott Manske, Angie Teeter, Matt Manske, Ben Manske, Josh Manske, and AnaLisa Manske.

The Schuchert Funeral home was in charge of arrangements.
