Anita Virnig

Blue Earth Anita Virnig, age 79, of Blue Earth, died Monday, Oct. 28, 2013, at her residence.

Funeral Services were held on Nov. 1, 2013, at SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Blue Earth. The Rev. Peter Klein officiated. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery, Blue Earth. Patton Funeral Home & Cremation Service was in charge of arrangements.

Anita (Schultz) Virnig was born Sept. 18, 1934, on the family farm in Barber Township, Easton, the daughter of Henry V. and Mary (Rauenhorst) Schultz. She completed grade school at the Catholic School in Easton and graduated from Delavan High School in 1952. After high school, Anita was employed at the Frundt Law Office in Blue Earth as a legal secretary and bookkeeper, until her marriage. She married Fred Virnig on June 15, 1955, at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Easton. They lived in Elmore and she worked as bookkeeper at the Elmore Nursery where her husband was employed. She worked there until her first child was born. Anita then stayed home for 10 years to raise her family.

In June of 1966, Anita, her husband and their four children moved to Blue Earth. In 1967, she started working for the Callaghan Law Office, where she continued to work when it became Callaghan and Wendland Law Office, as a legal assistant, bookkeeper and tax preparer for 38 years until her retirement in 2004.

Anita was an active member of SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church where she served on the Parish Council for three years as secretary, four years on the Finance Council and was a member of the WCCW. She was, also, a member of American Legion Auxiliary and VFW Auxiliary. Anita enjoyed reading, knitting and shopping with her daughters. She especially enjoyed time spent with her family.

Anita is survived by her husband, Fred; her children, Debra (Keven) Crabtree, of Fergus Falls, Roderick (Cathryn) Virnig, of Golden Valley, Marsha (Gary) Engler, of Blue Earth, and William (Michele) Virnig, of Brookings, S.D.; eight grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; and brother, Leon (Midge) Schultz, of Easton.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Cletus (Lillian) Schultz, Victor (Millie) Schultz, and Vernon (Margie) Schultz; two sisters, Carmel (Raymond) Murphy, and Marvel (Johnny) Kubu; infant grandson, Bradley R. Virnig; and step-great-grandson, David Tesch.
