Conger Henry Rieffer, age 95, of Conger, died Thursday, Nov. 7, 2013, at his home.

Memorial Services were held Nov. 11, 2013, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Conger. Rev. Daphne Hamborg officiated. Interment was in Riverview Cemetery in Elmore. Bruss-Heitner Funeral Home in Wells was in charge of arrangements.

Henry Rieffer was born on Oct. 6, 1918, in Chicago, Ill., the son of Fredrick and Anna (Angermann) Rieffer. His parents were immigrants from Russia in 1913. They moved to and farmed in Nebraska when Henry was a year old. Several years later, they moved to Iowa, and continued to farm for nine years. When the depression hit in 1933 the family moved to Elmore. Henry was united in marriage to Irene Evelyn Frerichs on June 7, 1943, at the Methodist Church in Elmore. In June 1970 they moved to Conger. Henry and Irene farmed in the Bricelyn and Elmore area for many years. Farming was Henry’s passion. After he retired as a farmer, he worked for Winnebago Industries in Forest City, Iowa, for 10 years. Henry enjoyed fishing, boating, traveling and camping in western and northern states. Henry so enjoyed his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, watching them play and ride the go-cart around the yard. Henry also loved his cats.

Henry is preceded in death by his parents; and 12 brothers and sisters.

He is survived by his wife, Irene (Frerichs) Rieffer; sons, Russ (Sandy), Paul, Tom (Rita), Larry (Sharen), and Scott; daughter, Cathy Orke; nine grandchildren, Bryan (Anna Marie) Rieffer, Lori (Andy) Hobenson, Michelle Rieffer, Cara Rieffer, Gary Rieffer, Rachel (Elmo Peterson) Rieffer, Amy Rieffer (Chris Neumann), Mindy (Tim) Mullen, and Sara (Donny) Watters; 10 great-grandchildren, Henry and Benjamin Rieffer, Caleb, Colby and Clayton Mullen, Matalie and Makaylee Watters, and Josiah, Nevaeh and Elmo Peterson; brother, Jacob Rieffer; sister, Alice (Ralph) Anderson; and many nieces and nephews.
