Bucs score well; Resutek places in events, all around
The Blue Earth Area gymnastics team competed against the Jackson County Central Huskies last Thursday in Winnebago.
Although the Buccaneers couldn’t defeat their opponents, they came in a close second, with senior Haley Resutek helping to lead the team.
Resutek placed fourth in the all-around category with an overall score of 31.275. She also placed on the vault and the uneven parallel bars. She earned third place on the vault with a best score of 8.62. Her performance on the bars earned an average score of 7.65 putting her in the fourth place position for that event.
The Bucs scored highest on the vault with an overall score of 39.775; also scoring 31.025 on the floor, 26.025 on the beam and 24.1 on bars.
JCC’s floor routines seemed to be their strength in this meet with a team score of 35.875. They also scored 34.55 on the vault, 31.625 on bars and 32.475 on beam.
JCC gymnasts also took the top three spots for all around. Haley Bass came in first place with a total score of 34.75. She had an 8.375 in bars, 8.9 on vault, 8.525 on beam and 8.95 on beam. Bass also earned first place on vault, first place on bars, second on beam and third with her floor routine.
The BEA junior varsity team also participated in the meet. Haley Jahnke was the only JV Buccaneer to place during that portion of the meet. She came in second in all around with a total score of 19.5, with a score of 2.2 on bars, 7.5 on vault, 4.4 on beam and 5.4 with her floor routine.
BEA Invitational
Blue Earth Area gymnastics team hosted an invitational Dec. 14 and competed against Jackson County Central and Martin County Area.
BEA varsity earned third place at the invite, with a team total of 111.625. They had 32.35 on the vault, 24.025 on the bars, 26.825 on the balance beam and 28.425 with their floor routines.
The JCC?Huskies were the top team that day with a total of 134.925. Their strength was in their floor routines with a score of 35.225. They also scored 33.55 on vault, 31.25 on bars and 34.825 on beam.
MCA?Magic came in a close second with an overall score of 134.875. They had 34.5 on vault, 33.425 on uneven parallel bars, 32.775 on beam and 34.175 on floor.
The Buccaneer’s Haley Resutek was the only one from BEA to place during the invite. She earned sixth place with her performance on the vault with a best score of 8.3.
Unfortunately, none of the Buc gymnasts placed in the all-around portion of the meet. MCA’s Becca Steen was first place all around with a total score of 36.175. Haley Bass of JCC?was second all around with a 35.025 and Bryanna Peterson of MCA was third with 34.5.
Becca Steen of MCA had first place in that event with a best score of 9.25. Haley Bass, of JCC, had second place; Martha Olson, MCA, was third; Bryanna Peterson, MCA, was fourth; and Brielle Scheepstra, JCC,?was fifth.
The Magic’s Bryanna Peterson earned the first-place rank for the uneven parallel bars, with an average score of 9.275. Her teammate Becca Steen came in second in that event with an 8.4 and Haley Bass, JCC, was third with 8.025.
MCA’s Becca Steen also was the top gymnast on the beam with an average score of 9.25.
JCC’s Haley Bass and Bailey Schneekloth were second (9.075) and third (9.025), respectively.
Becca Steen was number one with her floor routine that day with an average score of 9.275. Brooklyn Schuett of JCC?was second and Haley Bass of JCC?was third.
The JV teams also participated in the invite. JCC?took first with a team total of 123.15, MCA second with 119.2 and BEA?third with 67.8.
As a team, BEA had 25.4 on vault, 10 on bars, 13.45 on beam and 18.95 on floor.
While BEA gymnasts didn’t place in any events individually for the JV portion of the invite, they did have some girls place in all around.
Buccaneer gymnast Mateja Lane earned third place in all around with a total score of 18.85. She scored 2.2 on bars, 7.5 on vault, 4.0 on beam and 4.35 with her floor routine.
Arianna Nagel was fourth all around gymnast. She had a 3.25 on bars, 6.9 on vault, 3.3 on beam and 4.55 on floor for a total score of 18.
Hayley Jahnke was fifth in all around with a total score of 16.5. She had a 2.1 on bars, 6.95 on vault, 3.1 on beam and 4.35 on floor.
The Bucs will compete against the New Ulm Eagles on Friday, Jan. 3 at 6 p.m at the Winnebago gym.
