BLUE EARTH AREA SCHOOL BOARD MINUTES

The regular meeting of the Board of Education of the Blue Earth Area, I.S.D #2860 was held on Monday December 9, 2013 in Blue Earth , MN.

Present were School Board members: J. Haugh, M. Eckhardt, F. Bly, M. Maher, T. Cahill and S. Ripley. Absent was D. Fellows.

Also attending were Supt. Gough, members of the press, staff and public.

The meeting was called to order at 6:30 p.m. by Chairperson Bly. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited.

On a Maher/Haugh motion the board approved the agenda. Unanimous approval.

Allan Wilhelmi was present to conduct the annual Truth in Taxation hearing for the school district. A review of the District's finances was presented at this time. There was no public comment.

Public input: Alicia Corbett was present to inform the Board that the Orchestra program continues to grow. The after school program for the younger kids has really been a nice fit. This group was on hand and performed a few Holiday Classics before the meeting started.

On a Ripley/Cahill motion, the board unanimously approved the minutes from the November meeting.

The board unanimously approved eleven wire transfers totaling $1,841,899.34. Eckhardt/ Maher motion.

Chairperson's report: None

Superintendents Report: Mr. Gough reported that the technology group continues to meet and explore a future 1:1 initiative.

Committee Reports: Member Eckhardt informed the Board that negotiations with the certified staff continue to move forward. Also member Cahill reported that the audit for Southern Plains Cooperative was conducted by Clifton/Larson/Allen and it was a clean audit.

Principal Reports: Mr. Cue reported that the Fall dinner was a success once again and that the kitchen staff did an excellent job preparing the meal. Mr. Schneider informed the Board that the Student Council from the High School has approached him with the idea of having a winter formal. It sounds like a great idea and more details will follow as he is looking forward to working with them to make this a great night for the students.

Other Reports: Ms. Erickson and Mr. Wood, who are both staff members in the elementary, gave presentations on the Ipad's. Not only are they being used to track academics but they are also a great tool to reinforce behaviors in and out of the classrooms. A program called class do-jo is one way of staying connected with how your children are doing at school.

Action Items:

The Board unanimously approved the 2014 property tax levy which will be a decrease of 1.99% on a Eckhardt/Ripley motion.

The seniority list for the 2013-2014 school year was approved on a Cahill/Maher motion.

Personnel:

A leave for Molly More was approved on a Haugh/Eckhardt motion.

On a Cahill/Maher motion, the board was dismissed at 7:36pm
