Frost Omar Ewald Prestegard lived a full and happy life beginning Nov. 14, 1924, and ending April 5, 2014. He was 89 years, 4 months, and 22 days, passing away at St. Luke's Lutheran Care Center after a relatively short illness.
Funeral Services were held April 9, 2014, at United Lutheran Church in Frost. The Rev. Arne Halbakken officiated and interment was in Riverside Cemetery, Blue Earth. Bruss-Heitner Funeral Home in Bricelyn was in charge of arrangements.
Omar was baptized and confirmed in his Christian faith at Bethany Lutheran Church, rural Frost. On Nov. 18, 1950, Omar married the love of his life, Alice Erickson at Bethany Lutheran Church. They had six children: Allen, Jean, Mary, Bonnie, Pauline and Carol. Omar attended Homedahl Country School, and graduated from Bricelyn High School. He then attended the University of Minnesota School of Agriculture. Omar was a lifelong farmer in Faribault County. He loved the feel and smell of the soil. One of his favorite pastimes was to take Sunday afternoon drives with Alice to look at the crops. He enjoyed his family and supported the various activities that six children bring to a family. Besides being a successful farmer and father, Omar was a member of the?Farm Bureau and Minnesota Corn Growers. He was also active in politics, music, and his church. Omar and Alice enjoyed traveling in the United States and abroad. In his leisure time he would play Dominoes with Alice, have morning coffee with friends at the Frost caf, watch the Minnesota Vikings, and attend cultural events.
Omar was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Inga (Silrum) Prestegard; infant brother; sisters, Corrine and Elaine; brothers, Juning and Rueben; and his son-in-law, Tim Skurdal.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Alice (Erickson) Prestegard; children, Allen (Judy) Prestegard, of Blue Earth, Jean (Loren) Eckhardt, of Blue Earth, Mary Prestegard, of Woodbury, Bonnie (Tim) Fisher, of West Union, Iowa, Pauline (Jeff) Brittain, of Boone, Iowa, and Carol (Lewis) Olson, of Des Moines, Iowa; 17 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren all of whom will miss him greatly.
