The young Blue Earth Area Buccaneer boys tennis team struggled during their opening match of the season, played Thursday afternoon in Waseca.
The Bucs fell to the Bluejays by a score of 7-0.
BEA had no seniors on the team Thursday, with four juniors, one sophomore, three eighth graders and one seventh grader filling out the spots.
The tough, experienced Bluejay squad is made up of all seniors and juniors.
Leon Chaudhari, a Buc junior, fell to senior John Lewer 6-0, 6-0 at the No. 1 singles position.
At No. 2 singles, BEA's Chandler Kienitz, a sophomore, lost 6-2, 6-2 to Waseca's Ryan Von Ende, a senior.
Junior Justus Thelen of BEA lost 6-0, 6-0 to senior Ben Johnson at the No. 3 singles spot.
BEA forfeited at No. 4 singles.
In doubles action, Buc juniors Jaron King and Martin Granados teamed up at No. 1 doubles and fell 6-1, 6-0 to the Bluejay senior duo of Josh Kimball and Josh Metzdorff.
At No. 2 doubles, Buc eighth grader Spencer Peterson and seventh grader Parker Kienitz teamed up to take on Bluejay juniors Dakota Johnson and Michael Butterfield, losing 6-0, 6-0.
BEA eighth graders Mason Hehr and Spenser Timmerman lost 6-0, 6-0, to Waseca senior Andy Haley and junior Marcus DeKruif at No. 3 doubles.
The match, played in 60 degree windy weather put BEA's record at 0-1, (0-1 in the South Central Conference).
This week the Bucs will have another conference match when the travel to St. Peter on Thursday.
