The Blue Earth Area boys golf squad participated in the New Ulm Invite last Thursday and improved as a team by 12 strokes from the previous match.

BEA finished in fourth place out of nine squads.

Team results were: New Ulm 307, Jordan 350, Fairmont 354, BEA 362, NRHEG 368, Glencoe/Silver Lake 431, LeSueur/Henderson and Norwood Young America also competed.

Connor Thielfoldt was the low Buc shooting an 89 (47-42).

Zach Curtis shot a 90; Lane Anderson carded a 91 and Luke Monson shot 92.

Six of the top scores were from New Ulm, including medalist Tanner Zupfer, who shot a 74 (37-37).

"Overall, I like the downward trend of the team score and hope it continues," coach Travis Armstrong says.

St. Peter Invite

The Blue Earth Area golf squad competed in the St. Peter Invitational last Tuesday.

The Buccaneers finished in eighth place.

However, United South Central finished second and produced the two best scores in the entire field.

Nate Pederson shot a five-over 74 and earned medalist honors, while Ryan Pederson was one stroke behind with a 75.

Team results were: Holy Family 315, USC 320, Jordan 333, Holy Angels 343, Waseca 345, St. Peter 357, Tri-City United 359, BEA 362, Watertown Mayer 364, Belle Plaine 369, Bloomington Kennedy 370, Le Sueur-Henderson 402.

For the Bucs, Trevor Zierke was the low man with an 88.

"Trevor could have been much lower had he not blown up on three holes. If he only bogeyed those holes, he would have shot an 80," coach Travis Armstrong says.

Connor Thielfoldt and Zach Curtis both shot a 91 and Luke Monson carded a 92.

"Everyone seemed to have a few really bad holes that inflated their scores," Armstrong says. "If we can just learn to limit these poor holes, or not allow them to compound into a string of bad holes, we can bring our stroke total down drastically.

For the Rebels, Seth Olson shot an 84 and Nick Neubauer contributed an 87.

BEA 198, St. James 203

The Blue Earth Area boys golf squad defeated St. James 198-203, last Monday to start the season 2-0.

"It was very windy," coach Travis Armstrong says. "I think the guys learned that controlling trajectory in the wind is vital. The nice thing is we are not usually short on windy days to practice knocking shots down into the wind."

Zach Curtis earned medalist honors and 12 South Central Conference points by shooting a 45.

Curtis bogeyed the first three holes and ended up double bogeying two of the next three holes. He then birdied the eighth and bogeyed the ninth hole.

Connor Thielfoldt (11 SCC points) shot a 46; Luke Monson (nine SCC points) contributed a 49 and Trevor Zierke (4 SCC points) shot a 58.

Zierke struggled early, but bounced back with a birdie on the fourth hole.

"The two birdies were impressive by Zach and Trevor," Armstrong adds.

John Olsen led the Saints with a 48 (10 SCC points).
