Joice, Iowa Derek William Wrase was born on April 1, 1961, in Adrian, to Henry William "Bill" and Constance Elaine (Brekke) Wrase. The young family relocated to Frost shortly thereafter, where Derek attended school, becoming the last graduate ever to receive a diploma from Frost High School in 1979. Derek started driving truck soon after, and over the years he saw much of the United States from behind the window of his semi. On July 21, 1988, Derek married Rennie Amundson in Moody County, S.D. The couple had two daughters, Alyson Dee and Ayrica Monene.
Derek enjoyed riding his Harley, tinkering with old vehicles, watching the History Channel, and most of all joking with family and friends. He will always be remembered for his ability to carry on a conversation with anyone. His easy-going nature helped Derek make many friends over the years.
Derek passed away the morning of May 20, 2014, as a result of an accident while driving for Pete Klein Trucking based out of Rock Rapids, Iowa. The accident occurred on his regular route in Nebraska. Derek will be buried near his family in United Lutheran Cemetery by Frost.
His memory will be cherished by his two daughters, Aly (Lee) Lincoln, and Ayrica (Caleb Franke) Wrase, all of Frost; partner, Jennifer Nelson, and her son, James, of Joice, Iowa; mother, Connie Wrase, of Frost; sister, Jacalyn (Bruce) Dreier, of St. Anthony; brothers, Patrick (Connie) Wrase, of Eagan, and Thomas Wrase, of Fairmont; grandmother, Clarice Brekke, of Frost; uncle, Gary (Connie) Brekke, of Rochester; former wife, Rennie Amundson, and her children, Keith and Amy, all of Frost; along with cousins, nieces and nephews, and many friends.
Derek was preceded in death by his father, Bill Wrase, and his grandfather, Edmund Brekke.
A celebration of Derek's life was held at the Frost Community Center on May 30, 2014.
