Pirates start season with a 14-4 victory

The Blue Earth Pirates kicked off their season with a win.

The baseball team traveled to Waterville on May 18 where they defeated the Waterville Indians, 14-4.

Lee Hodges started the scoring out in the second inning. The Pirates brought in three more runs that inning putting a score of 4-0 on the board.

In the third inning, TJ?Stallman was first up to bat and the first Pirate player to cross the plate in the third. Four more runs came in that inning, bumping the score to 9-0.

The Pirates continued on their hot streak and scored three runs in a row during the fourth inning seeing Kane Malo, Cody Sukalski and Brandyn Olsen all crossing home plate.

Their opponents remained scoreless the first four innings. Finally, in the fifth inning, they managed to bring four runs in, taking the score to 12-4.

The Indians could not muster another run during the game, unlike the Pirates who added two more runs to their score in the seventh inning, winning the game 14-4.

Hodges pitched four innings and faced 16 batters. He only allowed two hits and did not allow any walks or runs. Hodges also struck out six batters.

Olsen pitched three innings. He faced 18 batters, allowed four walks, three hits and four runs and had one strikeout.

Stallman scored one run for the Pirates. He was 2 for 4 hitting and took one base on balls.

Hodges was 1 for 4 at bat, scoring a run.

Malo was responsible for two runs for Blue Earth and although he was 0 for 2 at bat, he took one base on balls and took one base after being hit by a pitch.

Sukalski seemed to be the hot hitter for the day since he was 4 for 4 hitting. He hit a home run, a double and stole a base, resulting in three Pirate runs.

Olsen also scored three runs. He was 2 for 4 at bat and took one base on balls.

Zach Dahl was 0 for 2 at bat but scored two runs by taking bases on balls.

John Franta was 1 for 3 at bat and scored one run.

The Pirates played a game on Sunday, June 1 but was after the Register deadline and will be featured in the next issue.

The next game will be on June 4 in New Richland at 7:30 p.m.
