The United South Central boys golf team took second place as a team at the State Class A Golf Tournament last Wednesday.

After finishing only one shot behind Dawson-Boyd High School on the first day of competition, the Rebels couldn't quite overtake their opponent.

The final boys team results were: Dawson-Boyd 660, USC 675, Legacy Christian Academy, Andover 679, Mille Lacs 685, Ottertail Central 692, Kittson County Central 693, Murray County Central 702 and Lewiston-Altura 704.

Leading the Rebels was sophomore Ryan Pederson, who shot a final round 75. He opened the tournament by shooting a 10-over 82. Pederson finished in seventh place overall.

Senior Seth Olson finished 11th overall. He carded a two-day total of 161 (83-78).

Junior Nate Pederson placed in a tie for 20th. On the first day Pederson shot 83 (41-42) and followed that up with an 84 (38-46), for a total of 167.

Last year USC finished fourth as a team. Ryan Pederson was fifth overall and Nate Pederson was 10th.

Returning champion, Luke Johanson of Southwest Christian, failed to repeat, but finished ninth overall with a 158 (79-79).

Eighth-grader Brock Bliese of Mounds Park Academy burst onto the scene and captured his first State Championship crown with a two-day total of 150 (76-74).

Legacy Christian Academy repeated as back to back State champions as a team.

It was a strong field with seven of the top-10 individual finishers returning from last year.

Southwest Christian senior Christine Piwnica carded a 159 (79-80) to take top honors in the field.
