There are nine Blue Earth Area track and field athletes who went above and beyond their performance not only on the track, but in the classrooms as well, earning Academic All-State honors.

The Buccaneer honorees (and their qualifying events) are: Daniel Krieger (shot put and discus), Paige Darrington (4 x 200 and 4 x 100), Anne Franta (200-meter dash, 400-meter dash, 4 x 100, 4 x 200 and the 4 x 400), Taylor Grandgenett (100-meter hurdles, 300-meter hurdles, 4 x 400 and the high jump), Miranda Johnson (100-meter dash, 4 x 100 and the 4 x 200), Karli Olsen (400-meter dash and the 4 x 400), Brandon Olson (pole vault), Shayna Stevermer (300-meter hurdles, 4 x 200 and the 4 x 400) and Chris Sanders (3200-meter run).

It was the first Academic All-State honors for Krieger, Olson and Sanders, while Darrington, Franta, Grandgenett, Johnson and Olsen earned their second.

"We are very fortunate to have such dedicated students here at Blue Earth Area," coach Tom Plocker says.

In order to be eligible for the honor, student-athletes must be in grades 9-12, have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.6 and meet at least one of the following track and field standards: earn All-Conference honors, qualify for the individual State Meet, or meet at least one of the standards on raceberryjam.com (a site for reporting outstanding performances in Minnesota), according to Plocker.
